This was a hat I made for a craft magazine submission a couple of years ago. The project never made it into the magazine, but I still think it’s darling. I took a huge chunk of boucle fabric and basically emptied my collection of half-used spools of thread onto my sewing machine to create the multi-hued llayered of stitching on the fabric. My key tool was my darning attachment. It allowed to me do all sorts of free-motion embroidery.
My fabric started to ‘shrink’ as I layered more stitching so I added more chunks, stitching those to meld with existing fabric. I tried it on as I went long to get the cloche shape. The black felt embellishments are from the 1940s…given to by a friend who knows I enjoy making hats!
