Description

I used Simplicity 3673, which is a vintage remake pattern. I listened to the advice of Gertie and other Burdastylers, so knew to be careful with sizing…this dress is MASSIVE if you follow the sizing chart. I have no idea why they allow so much ease. I made the dress 2 sizes smaller than what my size should have been according to the sizing chart, and I still had to tailor more off!

The material I chose was a bit risky…I loved the fabric, and the contrast between the bright turquoise and the grays and blacks, but given that it was a plaid flannel, with a long jumper-type style, I very well could have ended up looking like a dowdy school teacher from the 90s. I was nervous about what the end result would be throughout the entire sewing process. The flannel was pretty refined, not at all soft and pajama-looking, so it actually looks professional enough. I could definitely wear it to work.

In the end, I actually really like it. I think I should probably go in and take some ease out of the bodice, but that sounds like a lot of work, so I probably won’t. I think it’s a fun dress perfect for the autumn season!

Material Notes

A risky plaid flannel.

Did you choose shoes after fabric or they came first? :) Looks amazing, the colour combination. The dress looks at the same time busineslike and yet quite sexy. Great job! Did you use lining as well?

Thanks! I happened to have the shoes lying around. Only the bodice is lined…I know that people who line things properly love that they look pretty both inside and out, but I just think it’s so much work for something that no one will see!

What a lovely dress! And you chose the perfect fabric, doesn’t look dowdy at all.

i think the dress is intended to be worn over another shirt/blouse which explains some of the extra ease.

in any case, you did a marvelous job!

You’re right about that. I think it allowed 4 inches, so I guess one could wear a rather thick sweater underneath!!! :) Good point though, that does explain some of the ease!

I agree with Oscarthegrouch. Also, if you look at the model or drawings on the pattern, if there are clothes under the garments then it is more than likely supposed to be worn that way. I hope I’m explaining easy.
