Retro Bikini – BurdaStyle 5/2013 #132
I didn’t realize this pattern was intermediate skill level lol, but I got there eventually. Sewing with interfacing and shirring elastic for the first time were both interesting exercises. I made this retro style bikini set out of a bargain priced green sarong, and to really get that vintage Hawaii look I added 3" to the top of the bloomers, but it looked excessive. So I sewed 6 separate strips of underwear elastic inside, using clear thread in zig zag stitch, going downward to ruch up the fabric. There is an elastic strip along each of the side seams, three strips running down the front, and one going down the center back. That idea I got from a google search where I came across a tutorial lol. I think I had cut out some of the pattern pieces for the top in the wrong sizes though, and I decided to elasticize the little band in the front bust section (forming the keyhole) so I could get into it, lol. Also I think I may need to move the back strap position over a bit. Location: Kiriwina Island
