for the sew weekly challenge of women in tv, i was inspired by boomer from battlestar galactica.
i wanted a military feel with a twist. the battlestar uniform includes two tanks tops, one worn sort of backwards over the other, so i needed a pattern that could be layered and a look a little tough. i LOVE this laura pattern! perfect for layering. i went with stretch jersey in a color i wouldn’t normally choose, topstitched till i went blind, and omitted the pocket flaps and buttons, going with an exposed zipper instead. it felt more “cylon” that way… more about that at oonaballoona: sew weekly sunday resurrection dress
this was a very springy material that stretched in all directions— i wish i knew what exact type of jersey it is, because i loved handling it. it made such a satisfying sound whenever i plunked it down on my ironing board. and it is ALWAYS cool to the touch. maybe it’s made by cylons.

This is a beautiful dress, plus I LOVE jersey; perhaps the jersey you used is a wool jersey. Anyway, I love the red piping and top stitching. Great job!

thanks kelepso! would wool jersey always feel cool? i’ve got to get more of it!

You know, I am not sure if it will feel cool. I’ve only handled it. I’ve never worn it. I only know that it’s a bit heavier and much softer than ordinary jersey we wear for t-shirts. The material is very lovely.

i know, magda & i are always project buddies, it’s weird!
i’m glad you like it— the piping is actually the inner lining of the pocket, i put it on the outside instead & the piping effect just happened :)

I love the fit of this! Topstitching is one of my favorite things on a garment—I just sometimes wish it would do it on its own :P

ain’t that the truth. every time my topstitch was a trillionth of an inch off, i ripped it out and did it over. madness.

The lines up top caught my eye.
The fit flatters.
You did it again!!!
