Description

I made this gown to wear to a ball that was held by the Oregon Regency Society. I modified the 1805 Bib Front pattern from Period Costume for Stage and Screen, Vol II 1800-1909 by Jean Hunnisett to recreate the gown worn by Countess Daru in the portrait by David.

Material Notes

100% acetate taffeta, 100% Cotton Voile, cotton cording, straight pins

Stunning gown and you look FANTASTIC in it! Thankyou so much for showing such a clear photo of the back – I’ve been trying to make a pattern for a Regency style dress and the back has always eluded me as there are very few pictures and most are either too small or blurry. Thankyou thankyou thankyou!

I have a somewhat random question: I always look at these gowns and think that the sleeves must slip off one’s shoulders quite a bit. Do they? If they don’t, is it because the dress is so well fitted around that area?

    Absolutely stunning, by the way!

Lovely, i made my daughter a dress very similar to this one! Though I took my inspiration from Jane’s ball gown in Pride and Prejudice. It looks lovely on you.

Fantastic Regency dress! I’ve never tried to scale up a pattern from a book. I’m so impressed!
