This is a 2-in-1 post, showcasing my refashioned t-shirt as well as my version of the Kasia skirt!
First the t-shirt. Originally puchased at an op shop: plain white with thin light blue stripes. Simple and fitting really well. Then one day a horrible mishap occurred, involving caramel ice-cream and its penchant for not wanting to remove itself from the white surface of the fabric upon which it fell, and I was left with sorrow and an angry yellow stain. Now, I’m not one to use bleach or nasty chemicals to do my washing. Instead, I put off drastic action and wore a frown for a while.. UNTIL, wandering into another op shop for some perusing, I came upon a sailor collar that was just begging me to buy it. How could I say no?! (It has little buttonholes in it, which can be seen in the photos, and which just don’t look that great with buttons in them). The sewing was simple and very successfully masked the ice-cream stain (stain? what stain..?), yay!
And as for the Kasia: I adore pencil skirts. And this pattern looked really appealing. One thing I didn’t realise initially was that the back and the front both have pockets. I decided against this for the back, as I could foresee excessive bulging, so just created faux pockets that mimic the ones on the original design. Phew! I was working with fabric remnants (as usual) – both navy, but different shades; one stretch, the other non. Sewing the different fabric types was a bit of a pain, especially when it came to the zipper – I ended up using the column of hook and eye closures from an old lingerie bodice, which worked rather well. I also really loved the look of the two shades. I used press studs for closure – they hold better than buttons with the fabric I used – the grey buttons (also from an op shop) are decorative rather than functional. I love this skirt, it’s so comfortable to wear and is a great cut for a gal with hips ;)
2nd hand fabric remnants (stretch + non-stretch), 2nd hand t-shirt and collar, 2nd hand buttons, closures from 2nd hand bodice
Bright colors and cute animals decorate these dresses and shorts.
