I made this dress using a vintage 1961 sewing pattern. It’s the first time I’ve used a vintage sewing pattern and I have to say, I love them and am completely converted! I found this wiggle dress pattern, McCalls 5995, on Etsy, bought it and had to grade down the pattern. To view the pattern, click here. Grading really did scare me to no end as I have never done this before. However, it turned out brilliant, though I do believe I could grade down just a little more for a snugger fit. I did triangular bound buttonholes down the front of the bodice, you can find a tutorial for that here. For the zipper, I handpicked it and lapped it. This I am most proud of and I do believe that I will use more and more regular zippers with this technique method than trying to use an invisible zipper, which typically never works for me. The original design was so attractive to me that I didn’t alter or change anything except for the triangular buttonholes. The Red Vixen Dress, just in time to be smitten for Valentine’s Day!

Thank you for the link to the button holes, they are very unique and have given me an idea for a project I scrapped because of the missing buttonhole option on my machine.
Beautiful work by the way, absolutely lovely!!

you did a really great job! I love the buttonholes. the color suits you so well, I’m a big fan of red myself :) As for the invisible zippers – I don’t like them, tried it once and decided not to do the same mistake again :)
I tried to leave this post on your blog but the “post” button doesn’t work :( or is there any trick I don’t know about? :)

Great photos of an amazing dress! I actually like that it is not extremely snug. It still looks falttering and not at all frumpy or ill-fitting. I love the triangular bound button holes. Bravo!
