I am a mature aged student at university studying nutritional medicine and I have been waiting for weeks to finish assignments and exams to make this dress before I decide to cut into a beautiful piece of silk and repeat the same pattern. Although I have only used very average quality linen which I preshrunk, I am very happy with this style and fit. It crushes easily but it will be a lovely cool dress to wear in our hot and humid summer. I am now about to sew the 2nd version for Christmas.
This is not a difficult dress to make, but the neckline does need attention and care. Burda Style magazine 6/2011 #102

Ooo I do love a linen dress… and a red one at that! This is lovely. I can imagine that the neckline was a bit fiddly. Moreso getting those little gathers even. But you have done a fabulous job. I bet it feels great to wear. Looking forward to seeing the silk one! ;-)

Thanks Janene. The silk one is made but yet to be photographed. I have to wait for my son or daughter to pop over. The silk one is even nicer to wear and so cool and is already my favourite summer dress.

Very nicely made. I like the neckline very delicate. I wish I lived in your warm climate. We are trying to keep warm where I live. I also notice the detail on your hanger…love it!

Yes Liora it is very comfy. When it gets hot, I feel very lazy and I hate clingy clothes, so this dress is perfect. It would be great in your summer too.

Thank-you Liora (very pretty name). And yes this dress is very comfy, especially when I am hot. I hate clingy clothes and this is perfect for those hot humid days. I should not complain as the weather in Brisbane is almost perfect all year round. One of the reasons I love it here.

Thank-you!! The neckline turned out not too bad but I will be paying greater attention with the silk.

Thanks for your kind comments. It will probably look like a rag by the end of summer (May!!). I am not a fan of Spotlight fabric so I don’t expect it will go the distance but I needed a cheap fabric to try out before the silk was cut.
