I was a bit fed up with dresses, so I felt like trying something a bit harder! Why not a tailored jacket!!! It is again based on a Burda pattern from the june issue.
I felt like using a quirky lining because the jacket is pretty classic, so, I used polka dots! It was my first attempt to tailoring, and man I hated it at first! But I am really happy with the result!
I made a few alterations:
- At the back, under the waist, I made the pieces a bit bigger so it marks more the waist
- On the front, I curved the bottom and used “bra clips” instead of buttons.
At the moment, I am making a dress with the same fabric as the lining, it’s going to be lovely!
The photos were taken in the basement…
Red cotton for the shell
Flawy Chiffon for the lining (lilac, with red, mauve and orange dots)

Gah!! I love this! The lining is awesome, and I like that you used hook and eye instead of buttons.

And soon I’ll have a Marylyn dress with the same polka dots fabric!

that is unreal. I like that it does not have buttons, colour, short sleeves and polka dots go great with it. I am going through my burda magazines and i want to try jacket, but lining looks like a real challenge. I don’t understand the instructions in the magazine. Still, i will give it a go.

Try out on a cheap fabric, it really helps to figure out how it works!

You did an amazing job for a first time jacket! I adore the polkadots. I’ve made a corset and they STILL scare me (I’ve yet to try one). I’d recommend getting Threads Mag issue 147-149 for the “Smart Fit” instructions. They’ve helped me a lot!

I found an old burda book from the 80s with all that you would wish to know! Except it was meant for ladies that had studied sewing at school…
I was really afraid by jackets too, but i tried the pattern first on a cheap fabric, that I figured out my own instructions!

And also easier than buttons. I also think that it will look better on other outfits that have complicated prints!
