This is a dress I made for the Steampunk Empire Symposium in Cincinnati, OH at the end of April 2012. I wore it Saturday night for the Masquerade Ball, even though I wasn’t able to get my mask or hat done in time.
I plan to put a lining the in top and cut down the neckline since it turned out too low in this design. I was on a VERY tight schedule to finish this and even did some of the final sewing at the hotel!
It’s a little hard to see, but the underskirt had a train about 10 inches long as well.
I used a satin taffeta for the black parts of the shirt, including under the brocade to maintain the structure, and for the underskirt. The overskirt is brocade lined with a lighter matte satin.
