My friend Carole needed a Pochontas costume for her daughter. My grandma had this old leather coat she didnt want anymore. So First I removed the sleaves, and separated the front sides from the back. I used a childs shirt pattern on the sleaves and made the top of the dress. For the bottom I used the front of the coat. I removed the outer bottom pockets but kept the welt pockets. I used the pattern Sidonie and the How-to “Grade skirt and pants patterns” to make the skirt. I used the back of the coat to make the back of the skirt. Then after I had a lightbulb moment took the collar ofthe jacket and ripped the seam and had 2 collar peices. I cut those thru the middle so I had 4 long strips I sewed one strip to the top, and the remaining 3 to the bottom of the skirt. Then I cut them and Voila! fringe. I added a button from the jacket for a closure on the side of the dress without a shoulder.
1 ugly coat.
My grandma for the coat, Carole for the trust, and Wonderfalls for the screencaps.
