Burda Style For people who sew

I have to admit it — I’m kinda in love with this vest. It’s inspired by Tabitha Coffey from Tabitha’s Salon Takeover on Bravo. She wears a lot of black with pops of white, and she also has a short haircut and pale complexion like my lovely model here.

This is basically a quilted vest made from the JJ blouse pattern. I took off the sleeves and modified the collar a little bit. Here’s a rundown of the components:

-COLLAR: Waistband and facing from one of the pants.
-OUTSIDE: Men’s pants legs. I used the pinstripe pair for the front center and back, and the black pair for the sides
-PADDING: Padding from an old duvet
-LINING: One black pants leg and about 20 used and washed baby wipes (that’s right, baby wipes! I had them left over from a dress I made a couple years back. I just love the feel of them, they’re so soft! They’re courtesy of a friend of mine with kids. :)
-CLOSURES: These great silver snaps from an old pair of suspenders, paired with D-rings from an old dress sash, and secured with pieces of waistband and waistband facing

Material Notes

-Three men's pants; dress sash; suspenders; baby wipes; bias tape from old sheets (I always make white bias tape from sheets, it's so cheap and fast)
