So, my boyfriend’s mom gave me a really cute white romper- the problem was, it was a teensy bit too small. Just small enough to make it really awkward-looking. However, I loved the top part- so pretty and drape-y! So I decided to change it into a dress with a full, black skirt.
Then problems started happening.
The dress came together as planned, but for some reason, it came out looking HORRIBLY unflattering; the waist was oddly bunchy, making me look rather large and strange. I didn’t want to throw the project out, though, because I would have effectively waster a romper and two yards of fabric.
So I seam ripped the top and skirt apart and turned them into separates, which ended up being quite an elegant solution. They look cute (and flattering!) when worn together, but now they can also be worn with other things!
The top was reconstructed by adding side panels in black, and moving the tie belts from the bottom of the romper to the side seams. Easy peasy. The skirt is a simple-as-can-be elastic waist, with in-seam pockets, of course. :)
