This is a Burda project from issue 2/10 pattern 131. I changed just a bit…
For a start I made it into a dress by lengthing it. I also had huge problems with the lapels and collar- my problem is that the burda issue I have is in German and translating it was hard enough without having to go technical detail!! I tried everywhere I look for tutorials on these areas before deciding to grab the bull by the horns and make it as I wanted it.
I used ‘Metric pattern cutting’ for the collar (that was surprisingly easy but of course a slight fight to get it on but it worked in the end!!)
I bravely hacked a huge amount of fabric away from the front which would have been the lapel…I was so pleased it worked! Then to finish I added a contrasting bias tape around the front edge to hide the rough edges…. and then two small bands on the inside to act as tie tapes. The ‘obi’ style belt is great too- it is reversible and it can be flowery or red! I made that a little longer too.
I haven’t put any buttons on yet- not sure where too- I think I have to wear it about the house and see where would be best but I am so pleased!
The red material is some sort of reasonable stable material I bought from the fabric market. I have no idea what it is except if you unpick something it leaves marks and it feels very velvety. The contrast flower pattern is a quilting material 'Giant pandas'.

Surprisingly easy… collar self made which was easy but tricky as had to re-adapt markings to fit it on…. All I can say is give it a go!

Wrap dresses are great! I hummed and err’d for ages before just doing it. This one is slightly large around the back but because of the whopping belt it kind of tucks it all up!
