Salt Lake City, ...
I was a pattern tester for the Lady Grey Coat from Colette Patterns. I initially tested this pattern with muslin and then laid it aside with intentions of making it from something fabulous later on. One of my New Year’s Resolutions was to finish unfinished sewing projects and I felt this fell into that category. The coat turned out beautifully and I’m so happy with the finish. This coat is rated “Advanced” and I suppose that it is to a certain degree, but the fantastic instructions make you feel like it is for a beginner. I highly recommend this coat pattern to anyone!
In the initial construction of the muslin test, the sleeves were too big for the armhole. I corrected this on the muslin but then forgot to correct my pattern, hence why my sleeves are gathered at the top when the pattern does not call for it. I was too lazy to fix this for the finished jacket and felt that the sleeves would be just fine in the end if gathered. I also gave the sleeve a pleat at the elbow since they were a bit large-ish for my arms.
All in all, I’m completely in love with this romantic coat. I thought the large collar would drown me, but I find that the flared waist to hip area gives this coat great balance. A perfect addition to a rainy day and some warm Lady Grey tea.
