Late 1940s / early 1950s dress I made from vintage pattern from the Chicago Tribune, 1951, #2359. It almost has a 1930s look.
I found some citrus-y cotton voile with swirly dots all over it and knew it would be perfect for a vintage dress. Instead of making the belt out of the same fabric (read: lazy) I used French grosgrain (Petersham) in apricot and a vintage mother of pearl buckle I found at a local antique shop. I added the ruffle to the hem to balance out the ruffles on the bodice (it just didn’t look right without it; perhaps because the fabric is to light and floaty).
