Not really sure what a “hoodlum” was, but I looked it up and it’s someone who commits an act of violence. So this might not be a very accurate name.
However, this is made from a dress that failed a year ago. The hoodie part is too small and looks funny when I put it on, and is not very comfortable, but it’s alright, because I like how hoodies look when they’re down anyway.
No pattern, just based it off a t-shirt and winged the rest (probably why the hood doesn’t fit).

I love your hoodie, think it looks real cute! Very different with a hoodie made from flannel… If you have a bit more fabric, you could make the hood usable by giving it a strip all the way around at the bottom (like a long rectangle), then also give it a strip from the bottom and all the way up to the front edge. By doing this, the hood will get a very different shape, more like a helmet, something I think is actually very cool for hoods. Gives them a nice rounded shape too. If needed, you can give it some gathers at the bottom to make it fit around the neckline, I guess. I can’t remember exactly how I did it, but I did something like that for a hood that was too small to wear on a hoodie for my dog once, many patterns for such, and many commercially bought hoodies, have too small hoods. I think they don’t expect people to put the hood up on their dog. But my dog loves wearing a hood when the weather is bad, and I don’t blame her! By giving the hood this shape, it becomes much more cuddly to wear, both for humans and dogs. It gives the hood a nice and rounded shape and it fits better. On hers I also gave it a tightening strap at the back with 2 D-rings, so that I easily could adjust the hood to fit perfectly and not fall into her eyes…
But, if you don’t wear the hood up anyway, it’s not a problem. Might even be neater to look at if it is not too big? I too just like the way a hood looks when it’s down, it doesn’t have to be used to look cute… :)
Thanks for sharing! I am about to make myself a new hoodie too, I got two men’s hoodies to use the fabric for a new cover for my dress form, and I had so much leftovers, I think it’ll be enough for a hoodie sweater… :)
