I created a new dress from a blue, striped robe. First, I dyed the robe a light purple, and took it completely apart. I sketched what I had in mind, and measured and cut the pieces of the dress. I was very careful because I didn’t have much to work with.
I used my own skirt pattern and measurements for the skirt and waistband. Originally, I used a vintage pattern for the bodice (pic attached), but there were so many things wrong with it, that I ended up re-shaping and re-cutting all of the bodice pieces, and changing it from a surplice style to a v-neck.
Once I fixed all of the fitting issues, I sewed the darts and pressed them with an iron, to create nice, clean lines. I then attached all of the pieces, pressing seams open along the way, and added the zipper.
I removed the cuffs from the robe sleeves, and made them smaller and shorter. To create the sleeves, I lined up the bodice armholes with the old sleeves, adding seam allowances, and cut the new sleeves out at the length I wanted. I sewed the sleeves up, attached the cuffs, and sewed the sleeves to the dress.
Finally, I sewed a new hemline, and attached the patch pockets. I ironed out all of the wrinkles, and voila, the Purple Picnic dress was complete!

It’s a wonderful transformation. Your dyed color turned out beautiful (I tried to dye a checkered fabric once, but it turned out bad, checks gone, all one color). Simply amazing.
