I’m still learning to use my serger and this was my first project for myself on it that I am actually happy to wear! This isn’t technically a maternity pattern, but I’ve always loved no-elastic yoked full knit skirts and they work perfectly for an expanding belly. This pattern is really just a rectangular tube with a simple flared skirt (and optional flounce). I made the size medium and did a rolled hem with magenta-colored wooly nylon (instead of a turned up-hem). The waistband can roll up or down as desired, and I should be able to wear it post-pregnancy as well (maybe take it in a little, though). A quick, easy and fun project!
I used a super buttery soft deep purple rayon lycra knit french terry bought at the Paron Fabrics 50% Off Annex in NYC. It cost me $8/yard for 2.5 yards. It has loops on the back but is still quite lightweight and stretchy. The fabric had a bit more than 50% stretch. It does LOOK and FEEL lovely but it was a PAIN to work with—the little loops on the back kept getting caught in everything and I swear it’s already starting to pill!
