Hello everyone! I have missed you all but am glad to be back. Perhaps you’ve heard that the reason for my absence was due to a chronic illness. For the past year I have been struggling with a syndrome that presents symptoms much like chronic fatigue, and therefore have been too sick to sew for the past 7 months. Don’t worry, I’m doing great and can’t wait to get back in the game.
Proceed with caution! This is the most frustrating thing I have EVER made. Was it the fabric that made it so difficult? Nope. It was the insanely remiss instructions and pattern markings. The fit could be better; I wish I could have lengthened the torso. While the finished product looks great I will probably never attempt to make a bathing suit again, especially not this one. But with my white beach skirt and hat, I have to admit it looks fabulous!

Love it girl, you did a nice job! I’ve been dealing with the pattern and fitting for a week now, still haven’t figured out how to hem lycra without a serger. Do you have a suggestion? I’d be very thankful.

It is possible to sew a suit without a serger. Most swim suit fabrics don’t unravel, so the edges will be fine. Just use a zigzag stitch for the seams!

Love this suit! It came out very nice in spite of your difficulties! I want to make the Alison, but I’m having trouble because the instructions are so unclear. Do you have any tips? Also I wasn’t sure where a sizing chart is.

Well, if you’re mad enough to attempt it, I will help you all I can! I don’t completely remember everything…make sure to gather the sides of the bust. Use zig-zag stitching. Oh, and have a pillow on hand to scream into when you get frustrated!

I had a thousand problems too in trying to make this. Ugh! Ha.

Great job despite the pattern shortcomings. I’ve traced off my size and it dawned on me that there are no notches, no marks for gathering. No wonder there are so many variations in the cup placement to the side band in everyones photos!
Your suit has turned out really well and I do like that fabric :)

Hi! I actually found the fabric awhile ago at Walmart. I love having the sewing department there. It’s so close so if I just need some thread I don’t have to drive all the way to Jo-Ann’s!

Hillary! What a beautiful beautiful bathing suit! Despite all the troubles you had with the sewing, you couldn’t have had a better comeback I think ;)

Great to have you back!!! I absolutely love this bathing suit! You did a fabulous job! You’re right- the instructions are pretty awful. I used another user’s instructions- check out my swimsuit to see the link (if you’re interested). The fabric is awesome, and you look fantastic! Great job!

Wow your suit looks great! I think that the pattern was made with a short torso too. It would have been helpful to have had those instructions, but I managed. I challenge BurdaStyle to a pattern redo!

I’ very pleased that you are back and feeling/doing so well. I had my doubts about this pattern, and after reading this I’m happy I didn’t try to size it up. Your version makes a nice top, but do you think it would hold up to swimming? Silly, I know but if I go near water, I go into the water. Especially saltwater. Nehmah

Hey nehmah! I’ve already worn the bathing suit, and it holds up fine in the water. I just wish the torso was longer!

Even if it was a huge pain to make, the bathing suit looks fantastic! I love the fabric.
