Punk Rock Plaid Bustier
Added Nov 26, 2013
I finished this bustier project a while ago, and I finally got a chance to rock out and wear it! Just the word ‘Bustier’ or ‘Corset’ can be intimidating to a sewer, especially when the word boning is used. But this bustier was super easy to sew, and fit like a glove. I am super excited about the fit of this bustier, and next time I make it I want to extend the peplum and make into a dress.
For my bustier I used a hybrid of our Khaki Bustier pattern and Peplum Bustier. These two designs are on the same pattern PDF, so it was easy to navigate. The size I made here is a 40, and it fit my 38" bust and 29" waist perfectly (to help you guys determine your size!), and I made no pattern / fit alterations.
I love both the khaki and floral BurdaStyle versions, but I wanted mine to have a bit of edge and a touch of Avril Lavigne (not intentional, haha). I love the way it turned out anyway, and the pleats in the peplum are so flattering. I choose to sew it in a wool green plaid and it is fully lined with a green cotton. I love the way the exposed zipper looks with the plaid, it really gives it that rocker style! I can wear it many ways as well. Over a long sleeve shirt with jeans, or by itself with a tight black skirt… oh the possibilities.
