I really love this pattern. I used it to make my I Love Lucy costume a few years ago, but felt like I needed another version for everyday wear. That, and I had not played with the darted skirt pieces for my original make and was curious to see how I would like the feature.
I did make a few significant changes. I knew that I wanted a long-sleeve for my silk dupioni version, so I combined the sleeve head of the existing pattern with the bottom of a reproduction.
Turns out, I did not have enough of my pumpkin silk for the over-sized collar and long sleeve version I dreamed up in my head, so I had to find a suitable contrast.
Once I found my brown silk, I had to decide where to put the contrasting accents. The collar was obvious, because I simply could not fit those pattern pieces on the scraps I had leftover. But I thought it needed more brown, so I added a covered ring backing to my bodice buttons, and brown loops to the cuff. The belt was the final finishing touch.
I believe I am more pleased with this two-tone design than I would have been with a solid orange frock. Sometimes things work out for the best!
