Description

A dress I made for a wedding last year, inspired by the beautiful print from tessuti and the works of Mary Katranzou. I started with the burda style peplum top bodice, removed the darts and inserted a single piece that would wrap around from the front to the back, removed the zipper and made the sleeves a little longer (using the pattern piece already included), drafted a skirt, and kept the gathered sections on the side to maintain the symmetry on the front and back bodice.

You can see a little more about it on my blog: talk and texture

Material Notes

I made this out a digital print ponti (a heavy weight tight knit synthetic) that I bought from Tessuti Fabrics, in Melbourne

Gorgeous dress. Would you mind me featuring this refashion on SSB. I feature the before and after photo, then direct them to your page to find out how it is done. https://facebook.com/sassysewingbees

I’d seen that fabric at Tessuti and thought it was beautiful but didn’t buy it because I didn’t know how to do the print justice. This is just perfect.

Thank you!! I think I spent almost as much time working out placement as I did sewing the dress-so that’s lovely to hear :)

Oh, I love this so much! The changes you made to the pattern are so clever, I really like the shape that was created by removing darts. And there’s also this print, which is amazing. Super cool dress, I’m so gonna steal this idea from you :)

Oh awesome, please do. This is only my third time posting a project on burdastyle, so I didn’t realize there was a place to give a little tutorial on how I changed it for others to do the same (hopefully I can put one up soon) It’s really not that hard to do, but it makes a really distinct (and cool) effect!!
