This was my final project for draping class this past semester at FIT. A sheath dress with a princess line silhouette. This is the first garment that I’ve ever created a pattern for through draping on a dress form. It wasn’t made to fit me, but I managed to squeeze into it. I can’t lift my arms though.
2 1/2 yards of cotton fabric, zipper, hook & eye, purchased belt

very nice dress. I wish to learn how to sew princess line because I never get the bust seams good enough. How did you manage to prepare the pattern?

I created the pattern through draping muslin on the dress form. The front of the dress has 3 panels, each draped individually, and the back of the dress has 4 panels. After the pattern was completed in muslin I cut it out in fabric. It was my first draping class, so it certainly isn´t perfect but I´m proud of it. There are some good books out there on draping, give it try!

I love just about everything about this dress – the shape, the colour combination and the darker line in the front, the workmanship involved (if I am not mistaken draping instead of drafting can be more difficult, and I assume it goes double that if not triple for a tighter dress like this). I actually was about to comment on how great a fit it is on you when I read your description!!! :-) You should definitely make one for yourself.
