Description

Don’t you just love when a fabric and sewing pattern go together perfectly? That is what I thought when I completed this dress. This project was for my June Mash Up, and I love the fun-ness of both the print and silhouette of the dress. Totally ‘twirl’ worthy.

I used the Elastic Mini-Dress sewing pattern, and made it in this awesome Lego printed knit fabric that I received from Spoonflower. I bound the neckline and armhole edges with bright blue mesh spandex. I also added a mesh strip to the waistline over the elastic. It wasn’t planned on in the beginning, but once I completed the dress I thought it needed a little something extra.

I altered the pattern a little bit so the elastic was not entirely enclosed in the dress. See my entire sewing process in my Mash Up so see exactly what I did. I have already worn this dress out, and received a lot of complements! From the bloacked fabric to the elastic waistband and full skirt, this dress really makes you noticed in a crowd. I plan on wearing this mini-dress as a coverup to the beach, since it is a bit short. Or I would wear it over a pair of tight black biking shorts for a look that is ‘totally 80s’, hey I might even wear a matching scrunchie!

This is awesome. I remember the matching scrunches! Everyone of my daughter’s outfits that I made had one :-)
