Description

Vintage style underbust corset made from #106 Past Patterns with quite a few modifications. I shortened the length by 1 /12 inches. took a bit off the top so that it came to the underbust and redrafted the waist curve, reducing it in by about 3 inches smaller than the pattern sizing.

This pattern goes together like a dream, it is so well drafted. I love it and will definitely make another one (I made this for a friend, if only I could get in a corset this size!).

(*Edited to say Boy, are those really unflattering photos of the fabric. My friend looks great :) The blotches on it aren’t there in real-life).

Material Notes

Ballet slipper pink corset coutil from Whaley’s of Bradford which reminded me of vintage corsets that I have seen. It was a perfect colour for this style I think. I lined it with coffee colored chinese silk which had just a hint of pink in it in a certain light. The boning channels are natural unbleached twill tape from HEMA in The Netherlands and the lovely cream and pink toile grosgrain ribbon used as a waist-stay was from eBay. I love the colour combinations here and think that they have quite a vintage feel. Much more tasteful than my usual choices LOL

The unbleached cotton lacing and all the grommets, bones and busk were from www.venacavadesign.co.uk . I also purchased the pattern from here.

Excuse me again, by the way, my measurements are: 40" (102 cm) bust, 30" (76 cm) waist and 41 1/2 " (106 cm) hips, how should I calculate it? Please help me as I dream of making one like yours someday, but never so perfect as yours! :) Have a nice day, thanks for everything.

      Hi,
I REALLY do wish that I could take the credit for this corset but the design was from Past Patterns #106 which I altered to fit my friend’s requests. There are some great corset books out there with some great patterns but I would give this one a try if you haven’t made one before. That or the Laughing Moon pattern #100 which gives 2 corset styles and is a great starter pattern for making corsets. If you want to make the corset for tighter lacing then shave off a couple of inches by dividing equally the amount you want to remove by the number of seams. Do this at the point in the pattern where the waist tape would go and draw lines to smoothly morph back into the original pattern ones. This waist tape positioning is clearly marked on the pattern. Don’t take off too much in any one place or it will look a bit odd and remember not to take it off the front and back facing seams. Hope this helps & good luck. xx

Oh, please excuse me but, I am almost sure there are lot of people who really want to know how exactly you did this amazing corset, and if it possible to you, can you PLEASE show us in a picture how did you draw this pattern? or at least, could you please post a bigger resolution or HQ pictures of your wonderful work? A better resolution please! By the way, I’m really curious, do you know where is it right to sew the toile grosgrain ribbon? Where the waist beggins? In the middle of the waist? Please tell us how much as you can, please help us somehow! Congratulations for your job, I had never seen another Corset so beautiful as yours!

I like the corset, the pattern you used was a good choice. Did you make this one for the sew along? Congrats on getting your project featured on the front page :)

I’m impressed!! And I totally agree with everythingforever about always wanting to go and make corsets after seeing gorgeous ones, like yours. I can’t believe it only took you around six hours to make. Thanks for all the tips on where to buy supplies and a great pattern.

Hi, Thanks for all the lovely comments. This one didn’t take too long. Maybe about 6 hours sewing time and some for hand stitching the binding (and I have the blisters to prove it). I really would recommend this pattern as it has very clear instructions (that I ignored completely LOL) and is very easy to put together. xx
