    Hey Miss Sarah, I’m really loving this pattern, so thank you so much for sharing! I’m really new to sewing, and I was wondering if lace would be a suitable material to sew this top out of? :)

      Hey, thank you! Lace would be perfect- stiffer rather than flimsy to hold the shape better. A matching satin bias binding on the neck would look nice. I think someone made one in lace- tale a look at the finished top photos.

    what a great pattern! thank you so much! i made it yesterday. it is very cute and flattering and only cost me 6 bucks! the only change i made was that i made it hip-length. will make it cropped next time to layer over a tank top. thanks again!

      Hi there, the pattern is in uk sizes, so a us 10 is a uk 14. I’m a uk 12, which is equivalent to a us 8.

    Hi, I know this has been here awhile but I have a late question: Would it be fine to make it without the seam centre front? I want to use a plain fabric and the seam would be a bit too obvious. (But I love this pattern! and when I can buy nice prints I’ll make one with the seam, maybe some buttons.)

    AHHH, This is so nice <3 But when I downloaded it, the file was unable to be opened. The Instructions just showed the picture, and the pattern pdf didn’t even work… Is it discontinued?

      Sorry- haven’t been on here for a while. You need about a metre. It tells you in the instructions. You have probably realised that by now!

    Ya know what I’m feelin’ for this pattern?! Cutting the shoulder an inch or so taller and then adding buttons as the shoulder seams!

    Sarah, if I wanted to do that, how much taller would I need to cut the shoulder? In order to do button holes and buttons with enough seam allowance for stability…? Does that make sense? Shall I email you to discuss? Did I mention that I LOVE your pattern? Good. :)

      Hi there!
      Thanks for your fab comments! I made a similar top with buttons at the shoulders- see this link:

      You would need to add 1/2- 1 inch on the front and back, depending on the size of button used. You would also then need to make a facing pattern for a neater finish- check the photos out. This is such an easy top to make and so cool for the summer. I’m going to be working on a paper and PDF pattern of the top in the link shortly to sell in my Etsy shop, but I am happy to talk you through the process too.       Only a little piece of polycotton luckily! Its fine as they’re only PJs, but I’ll definitely be making this in the future in a nice silk or something to tuck into skirts!

    I’m almost finished with my first one of these, and agree that this is a great pattern. So quick, easy, loose fit is perfect for high waisted skirts. I made mine a bit longer too, to tuck in for work, and can’t wait to make more.Thanks for posting this for free!

    Also love the goldfinch and eagle patterns and blog! Really gorgeous stuff, I love the fabrics you use.

    I’ve made this TWICE so far – in two nights! L O V E it! I did one in a silk blend, which I wore to work the very next day (I added about 2-3 inches to the length – didn’t want to risk giving my co-workers a show ;), and one in a delicious Martha Negley floral cotton. I’ll post pics as soon as I can – just wanted to give my RAVE reviews! I’m going to make eight hundred of these. :) Really. I am.

    P.S. I definitely would not call it a ‘cropped’ top (on me anyway), but if anyone’s worried about the shorter length – it’s a PERFECT blouse to tuck into high-waisted skirts or trousers. Per – fect. :)

      Hi there, it is slightly cropped (sits a couple of inches below the natural waistline). I wear it layered over vests.
