Description

I have made the poppy dress to display at the local World War 1 commemorative event.

I have used a girls’ dress pattern and adapted it for adult size. The dress features vintage lace on sleeves and hems and wooden buttons at the back.

This is such a sweet dress, and I love the idea that you recycled an old tablecloth! You are inspiring me, because I also inherited such old beautiful things and want to give them a new life by making dresses of them :-)

This dress is beautiful as well as being very significantly special. My Grandfather was one of those soldiers on the Flanders fields and he talked about the poppies and how they were the only beautiful thing remaining. I think the poppies gave those men and women hope in such atrocious conditions. Thank-you for sharing your lovely dress and the story on your blog.

Amazing… to hear these stories from someone who was there. Thank you for sharing that, too. I am so happy when someone fully understands the significance of this event. My dress is only a modest tiny tribute.

This pattern has proved so popular, I sold three if girls’ version, all 3 to US. It is quite similar with the Romanian popular port.

Thank you! I was so keen to get this project done and photographed before rain started again, I forgot to “clean” it, there are threads hanging all over it!! I promise I will tidy it up soon!
