My first attempt at a coat. Learned the importance of test fitting a pattern prior to construction the hard way – the coat is not as fitted as I had intended it to be. The pattern was a vintage 60’s, not worth mentioning as it was a brute to get through and I gave it up mid way to finish on my own.
Ah, but the color! The color alone lent enough inspiration to complete this project. The inside hood and facing material is a vintage wool plaid recently found. I really like the combination.
100% wool with rayon lining.

Hello, I used a vintage Butterick pattern from the 70’s. It’s number 6311 Misss’ Coat. If I remember correctly, there was a mistake in the pattern instructions and an entire step was omitted. Sew with caution. I also would go an entire size down if I were to do it again. Good luck! I can’t wait to see it!

The coat is stunning! I can’t believe it’s the first time you’ve made one. The lining & the flowers really give it that something extra though, well done!

This coat is stunning! The color and the lining fabric and the shape – it really made my heart stop for a second! Beautiful! BTW I share your feelings about fitting, though I haven’t made a coat/jacket just yet which must be a pain to re-do!! Awesome work!!!

What a coat! I would love to see this on, the shoulder styling is great and the shape is beautiful. Poppies are my favorite flower and the color is so suiting. Well done on this work of art :) It all meshes so well.

Everything about this coat looks great! Were the poppies a part of the pattern or your own touch? I love them. I’m so inspired!

Thank you, I added the poppies on my own. I often use fabric scraps to make flowers, although usually for my hair.

I’m so sorry that this pattern is a “brute” because the end result is gorgeous. Wow, that poppy color is spectacular and the plaid lining the perfect offset. Love love this coat.
