i went through a distinct rockabilly phase, back when my hair was bettie page black. this is a very simple shirt dress made from McCall’s 4769 and a black and white polka dotted cotton print. it has a button up front, a seam at the waist and darts on the bodice. I made the skirt a little fuller than the pattern dictated, and added in a peter pan collar with a pearl piping that really gives it a little something extra around the face. in these pictures i’m wearing a vintage red crinoline underneath, adding a pop of colour to my otherwise colourless pallet. very cute dress, but these days i just don’t feel so into the whole rockabilly scene. i still wear it on occassion…
cotton cotton cotton. comfortable, convenient, cool. some kind of bamboo or linen would work just as good.

hi! the shirt dress is McCall’s 4769, and the crinoline skirt is second hand vintage. i have made my own in the past, so if you’re looking to make one all you need is some patience for gathering a million strips of fabric, or a substantial investment in a ruffler attachment for your sewing machine. i have both.. ;)
