Description

This has been in planning for… forever. I think I got the fabric about a year and a half ago and was always planning to do exactly this dress with it. Now I SHOULD be studying for my finals and all of a sudden I’m finding the time to do this :-D
This is the same pattern I already used for Hermia’s dress (Burda magazine 05/08. No. 127) and I loved it and have been kinda jealous of my friend for having it… now I finally got to making it for myself! Which is very unusual, ’cause I rarely make stuff for me to wear, I usually give everything away :-P
By the way, I love how kinda retro it turned out to look with the polka dot fabric :-)

Note to the last picture:
I love these shoes, seriously, I do. And they’d match the dress so well… But I can’t wear’em, they give me blisters after 3 minutes. Very sad :-(

Material Notes

polka dotted cotton, navy blue satin for the lining (cause the cotton is VERY see-through…)

Difficulty

Intermediate

Very sweet!! Quick question though – did you dart the bust line? I’m still struggling with darting, but this one looks dartless!

No, actually there are no darts in this pattern, the front part is gathered at the waist and pleated at the shoulders :)
But darting isn’t too hard, maybe watching this will help:

There are numerous tutorials like this one out there :)

YAY! Thats what I thought! Thank you for the link! :) I think I’m just afraid of darts!! :D

Its mostly the measuring part I don’t get…how high should they go on the bust…that kind of thing!

Oh I definitely will! I wanted to make a Kasia skirt to go with it, so hopefully by the end of the week! :)

Gorgeous dress! I just made a blouse with a similar front and neckline, and also in polkadot print. Twinnies! ;-)

What a nice idea to line the dress with the darker color. i would have been inclined to use the white but I like the way the navy blue adds a hint of color to the white. Excellent job!
