I am making a clutch for a friend for a present in pleather, but have never sewn with it before. I decided to do a trial run on something I could “use and abuse” to see how the stitching holds up, how the snap stays together, etc.
One thing I learned is that pleather loves to attach to the machine and not budge. I didn’t want to go out and buy a teflon plate and teflon feet until I knew it was something I wanted to do more often. For this project, I used a piece of printer paper stuck between the pleather and the machine (or the pleather and the foot, depending on which way it was facing) so it would move properly. It was insane using a small needle and tweezers to pick all the paper bits out of the stitches. For my next try, I am going to use pattern making paper and see if it tears away a bit better.
pleather (leather-looking vinyl), cotton fabric, zipper, snap
