I loved loved loved the skirt Audrey Tautou wears as she runs for the train on the Chanel no.5 advert and when I spotted some pre-pleated fabric I thought, ‘wahay, full circle skirt time’ only to realise that wasn’t going to work with a pre pleated fabric so my fabric languished in a box for over a year :-(
In the end I decided to make use of some left over scraps of black velvet and drafted my own wide waistband, measured one long strip of the pleated fabric with the width being the length of skirt I wanted, gathered the top edge and attached it to the waistband. The bottom (selvedge) of the fabric had a solid black line which worked with the waistband so I didn’t even need to hem it and the floral pattern is velvet so that tied it in with the waistband too. :-)
Loving exposed zippers as I do, I made use of Laura Bolcina’s tutorial: http://www.burdastyle.com/techniques/exposed-zipper but the front looked a bit bland and boring so it sat on one side for a few days until I found the solution I wanted and made use of the obi belt technique : http://www.burdastyle.com/patterns/obi-wrap-belt.
Not quite Audrey’s Chanel skirt but I love it anyway!
The t-shirt is a Burda magazine one from jersey fabric http://www.burdastyle.com/patterns/012011-long-sleeved-top . It’s a really flattering shape to wear and I keep meaning to make a whole collection of them in different colours, but with soooo many other gorgeous patterns I want to work on, it’s impossible to find the time.
Skirt is velvet and some kind of metallic polyester.
Top from jersey.
