East Perth, Aust...
Here is my entry for the Member Model challenge of the Pleated Designer Dress!
Made out of Cotton-Spandex with a slightly shiny satin finish. I opted not to fully line the dress because the fabric is quite thick and with the climate in Australia not really necessary ;-) I did however sew Hong Kong binding on the zipper edges and seams of the bodice for wearing comfort and a bit of couture feel on the inside. The hem on the sleeves and skirt I finished of with a satin ribbon on the inside to add a bit of pizzazz. I made a muslin to check the fit and altered the pattern to fit my 5 ft something petite frame.
Sewing the dress was not very difficult and it does not take much fabric, which was good because I bought the 1,3m left on the bolt and had to puzzle to get the pattern pieces in the right spots to achieve matching of the print. – unfortunately the print was not 100% straight – quite tricky to match the pattern at the seams.
Thanks to my fellow sewing ladies from the BurdastyleSewingClub Perth for helping with the fitting :-) pinning in the back is difficult and I don’t own a dress form yet.

it is based on a dress by designer Jason Wu – it was worn by Rachel Weisz at the CFDA Awards 2010
