Description

I used Vogue Pattern V828o for this dress (http://voguepatterns.mccall.com/v8280-products-6705.php). This was actually the second time I’ve tried to make this dress. The first time, the bodice ended up being too small and I gave up for like two years. But I kept looking at the pattern, and I kept thinking that it would make a nice, classy, working dress.

I don’t love the way it turned out. If you look closely, you can tell that the plaid on the bodice and the skirt doesn’t match up at all. And I ended up using a red zipper, because I had one lying around. But it didn’t end up looking very good, from the back.

I would make this dress again, but I might actually use some fabric with more of a give, like a thick jersey, or a wool blend with some stretch. This would save me the trouble of having to line up the print, and it would also save me the trouble of adding the zipper. Next time, I might also add some sleeves.

It’s a really nice pattern. I like the shoulder detail, and I think the fabric choice is good. It’s always hard with stripes but the matching isn’t far off, so I wouldn’t worry so much.

I wish I could see the back.
