Pixie Hood Caftan/Beach Cover-up, 1970's vintage pattern

Geneva, Switzerland

I purchased this vintage pattern on line from So Vintage Patterns. Simplicity 9426. I fell in love with the pointed hood detail so I spent $24 plus freight! Fabric is expensive and hard to come by in Switzerland so as usual, I made due with what I had on hand. I think it looks great but my daughter says it looks too “Desigual” a European clothing brand I detest. In my opinion, the hood makes it impish & a bit Moroccan.

The pattern was uncut – size Medium (12-14). I am usually a pattern size 12 and this seems to be a bit big. The nice thing is that I can fit a large cotton sweater underneath – I was toasty warm at the local rugby match over the weekend.

When I return to the States, I plan to make it again but in a light weight terry cloth for the beach. I also want to make the unhooded kaftan in a lighter weight cotton.

Material Notes

Natural linen, remnant Raoul Textiles hand blocked linen, red beaded tassel on end of hood, 3 Chinese frog closures

Summer, Spring
Garment Type
Beach, Bohemian, Ethnic
