pintuck bodice sundress

Added May 14, 2013

Louisville, Kent...

Here is my entry for the second round of Project Sewn, a sewing competition for women’s clothes. The theme for this week was sundress. I decided to make a simple silhouette with a pintucked detail on the center bodice.

To make it, I started with the bodice lining pieces of Simplicity 2250, a Cynthia Rowley dress pattern I already had, because it had the seams and subtle sweetheart shape I was looking for. I first made the pintucks on a large rectangle of fabric, and then cut the middle bodice piece from that. I modified the whole thing so it zips up the side instead of in the center back. The skirt portion is the Colette Beignet skirt pattern, altered to eliminate the button-up front and shorten it from knee-length.

See more detail on my blog and vote for me on Project Sewn if you wish! Thanks for reading.

Material Notes

Floral vintage cotton. Fully lined with self-fabric for the bodice and bemberg rayon for the skirt.

The whole dress is adorable and gorgeous on you, but these pintucks especially look perfect. A very refined and delicate garment!
