Description

Another combo of Pendrell Blouse and Kasia skirt.
I made the blouse in size 2, it is made with hot pink stretch charmeuse. I just love this pattern and it is so perfect paired with pencil skirt! The fabric has a bit of stretch in it so it is easier to put on and off. I used the matte side on the outside, which makes the shiny side against my body and it feels so comfortable.

The skirt is made zebra print microsuede fabric. I printed the Kasia skirt pattern at 92% and used size 38. I love this method instead of merely shortening the hem, because it makes the shape and details of the skirt more proportional to my petite body. And with this particular pattern, no fitting alteration is needed for my body!

I also made several design alterations to the skirt:
- Omitted the flap and pockets and kept the gathered side yoke for decorational purpose only.
- Changed the slits to back vent, using this helpful tutorial at A Fashionable Stitch. I really recommend this alteration as it makes the skirt looks better in my opinion.
- Shortened the hem to above my knee.
- Narrowed the hem by 2 cm on either side.
- Used invisible zipper on center back.
- Added Rigilene boning to the waistband facing. I didn’t use any interfacing because the fabric is stiff enough.

The skirt definitely need lining because the wrong side of the microsuede is not as soft as the right side, I used blue rayon lining from my stash. The waistband facing and hem are finished with light blue seam binding. I love how the inside of the skirt is so bright and colorful!

I love the top! Did you use a pattern? The shoulders are great!

I’ve had a flick through your projects, you’re very talented! I’m heading to Japan in 4 weeks, I can’t wait to go fabric shopping! Any recommended shops neatr Tokyo?

Thank you. The blouse pattern is Pendrell blouse, you can see the link to the pattern above in the credits.

The best place for fabric shopping in Tokyo is Nippori. It is an area with lots of fabric stores lining up both sides of the street. I recommend to do a Google search to read lots of reviews and see photos of this area. It is a fun place for fabric shopping!

this combo is just sooooooo fabulous!

I’m intrigued by you’re pattern sizing technique and wondering how you came to the 98% of a 38 number? Being petite myself I’m all ears for anything that gets me away from all that pattern shortening and redrawing side seams.

I just used the print at x% but only to shrink the stuffed bear pattern I made my nephews to a smaller version for their baby sister – I was pretty impressed how easy it was….and was wondering how it would work on clothes?

Basically I compare the body measurements for size 38 (or any size) with my own size and calculate the percentage. But it’s not my own idea, I knew about this technique from Burdastyle member Miho

It is best done on pants or pattern with certain details that need to be in proportion. I think it is better to keep the percentage at least 90% or more though. Hope that helps! :)
