Description

A few weeks ago I stumbled across malepatternboldness’s 1945 boxers, and fell absolutely in love. So I decided to make my own. I miraculously found the same pattern on ebay, and after perusing the instructions I decided to make a skirt instead, but with the same waist-band. If you look at Peter’s boxers, you’ll notice a few differences… some of them are because I’m not so good at the whole “making things fit” thing yet… and the other things are because I’m not so into the whole “following the instructions” thing. But overall, I’m really excited about how these turned out, and they were a good way to learn how to make buttonholes! (There are a lot of buttonholes).

If I were to do this over, I would put the pleats closer to the center of the back because they don’t really lay flat where they are. I also would put interfacing in the waistband, and obviously I would fit the dress better.

THE IMAGE OF THE PATTERN IS PETER LAPPIN’S. I didn’t bother taking my own. But I used the same pattern.

Great idea!!! I would think of turning the pattern into shorts, but a skirt… You’ve done very well and it looks very cute!!!

What a cute idea to transform the pattern! Looks like it was always meant to be a skirt—beautiful!
