I had this super colorful plaid fabric for a couple of years.. Just sitting in my stash and waiting for a right moment.. From the start, I only knew that I would want to make a dress out of it.. Every few months I would pull out the fabric, look at it, and put it back.. Things become more clear after I hand dyed some fabric, and with it white embroidered cotton eyelet trim.. It came out in this beautiful blue color, which instantly reminded me of the fabric, and it was a perfect match.. All that was left was to finally pick up the dress pattern.. I played it safe by choosing pattern #133 from Burda 12/2012, which I used twice before (Blue Light and Something Changed)..
Placing the dress pattern was a bit tricky.. The fabric is cotton, width of 1.10m, which is smaller than usual, and I bought 2m of length.. I laid out the fabric on the floor, and I’m sure that I stared at it for an hour or two, trying to figure out how to make it work.. That’s when I remembered the song from Dumbo – Pink elephants, and just couldn’t get it out of my head.. I knew that I wanted to sew the trim at the edge of the skirt.. There were some trim left, so I thought that it would be good to place it at the shoulders..
