My ‘come-back’ project. A very simple top made to get me back ‘into’ sewing mode after many years lay-off. Basically a rectangle with a neckline cut out then the sides seamed, leaving splits. The ties are simply 3 lengths of fabric plaited.
The pattern called for gathering at the back and ties in the front. I made as per pattern but hated it (I’m still not thrilled). I ended up taking 12cm off the hem, taking each side seam in by 5cm, replaced the back gathers with elastic and lowered the position, inserted darts on each side of the front where the ties attach. It’s better – ok for home. At least it only cost me about $3.50 to make!
