Description

I have always been inspired by the simplicity and playfulness of children’s clothing, particularly from the 1950s and 1960s. Working with a classic pinafore pattern, I added a Peter Pan collar to sweeten up the dress a bit and even lined the pockets with the same rose bud cotton/rayon challis print, purchased at B&J Fabrics. Lately, I’ve also been experimenting with mixing different prints together in unexpected ways. I was excited to finally cut into this striped wool that I picked up at Britex Fabrics, which I have been holding on to forever.

Material Notes

1 1/2 yards of wool, 1 1/2 yards of lining fabric, 1/2 yard of cotton/rayon challis, 18-inch zipper, coordinating thread

Difficulty

Intermediate

Really nice. Love the contrasts and that you carried the collar fabric into the pockets. Excellent positoning of the blue stripes on the pockets also. Kind of inspired! The collar really makes it!

Hi Jamie, if you come back to San Francisco anytime soon, you can totally wear it. It sure feels like fall (plus the wind and fog) here already. It’s great to get connected with you….homie!

Cool combination of fabrics. The amount the flower fabric is perfectly balanced for a combination that could be a li’l risqué otherwise….. yuuuuupeeeee!

From an “older” sewer who appreciates flawless techniques & execution: GREAT JOB! The stripes are matched perfectly, the invisible zipper perfect, the pockets (stripes) match perfect & the collar is a funky perfect contrast (with a nice finished edge)! Really fun to see!

Masterful job…not a pucker to be seen, especially in the back where it’s tricky. Congratulations on a job well done.
