This dress has taken me forever to finish. I started out with some Anthropologie inspiration (the Homegrown Dress). I couldn’t live without this dress. I loved it instantly so I tried my hand at making my own version. The bodice here is from McCalls 6027 and the skirt is from Simplicity 2724 which you might remember seeing as the full skirt pleated option if you’ve bought that pattern. I also used this pattern for my Naughty Secretary dress. Did I say that I absolutely love this pattern? Go out and buy it now. Really.
I had some princess seam issues with the bodice and had to change those around a bit, but now it really does fit like a glove. The skirt worked out very well. The skirt originally started out as a gathered numbered which looked really silly on me when I was almost finished and just about to hem it up. I decided to unpick it and redo the skirt because I knew I wouldn’t wear it otherwise. And I can’t just not wear it after all this work. Ahhh!
So here it is. My perfect spring dress. Favorite part – that fabulous tie. I think it brings the whole dern thing together! For more on this dress and everything it took to get here, visit my blog.

I never got around to commenting on this dress when you first made it, but I had just read about bleaching fabrics the day before you posted it and I thought it a funny coincidence! I love love love the poppy colored sash and the fit is smashing.

Fabulous dress and the fit looks good on you. Very spring-y pictures too! Just read your blog post and I actually prefer this fabric over the first choice, especially with that poppy red sash. Looking forward to hearing about the bleaching! I have plans to finish a dress tonight that I have worked hard on and thought was going to be stunning but is turning out to be a bit less than!!!
