Burda Style For people who sew
Description
After sewing new curtains for my gran, I decided to use the old curtains to sew a jacket.
It turned out ok, BUT I learnt that using old material has it’s definite down sides. Especially curtains which get hit with the sun, Australian sun. Unfortunately some rips started to form and I had to be inventive with interfacing and appliquéing. So this jacket is now only pulled out for Sunday brunches and afternoon teas.
I entered a photograph of the jacket into the peppermint magazine ‘(http://www.peppermintmag.com/) competition ’Fashion for a better-looking world’ and came runner up! So that was the good news.

I love the use of curtains – I made a pair of capris out of an old brocade curtain I found at a thrift shop a few months ago, and I have another curtain in my stash waiting to be made into a dress.
