this is actually my muslin top
wanted to check the sonja pattern
before i make it into a dress
using some more fabulous fabric
..
now.. i’m not so sure i want to make that dress at all
..
i usually sew using self drafted patterns or burda patterns
with burda, i always use size 38 for the bodice
and it usually fits me like it should
no alterations needed
(now.. if i measure my body
and look at burda sizes – i should not be able to fit into the size 38
but i guess they leave lots of ease)
..
but this pattern i could not figure out
i guess it’s not made for flat chested chicks, that’s all
i cut size 12 at the waist
but graded to size 10 at the bust (and it still was a bit big on me)
bodice was awkwardly long
and, cause i was too lazy to move the darts
and shorten it at the bottom
i lowered the neckline.. like – a lot
at least 15 cm (which is 6 inches, in case you wonder)
..
ok, i went overboard with that
probably 10 cm would be better
cause this way, waistline sits above my actual waistline
but after hours and hours of working on the top
i just felt like i should just finish it
and save myself some more misery
..
all these alterations
kind of ruined my favorite part of original pattern
that interesting armscye cut
but at least, they made the bust dart sit where it should
(it was really low set at first)
..
so.. in conclusions
dunno.. i kind of like the top
it’s a wearable muslin and i plan to wear it a lot
as it’s comfortable, even if the fit is not perfect
but i don’t think i’m going to make that dress
(though it would be easier, i’ve made pattern pieces
for my altered version)
..

Hey Girl,
Great shirt, I’m making a peplum shirt as well, but i’m having trouble understanding how to put in the lining.
Do you happen to have pictures for this step? Or any words of advice?
Thanks, Alma

well, dunno if i can be of any help here, my peplum top does not have lining (i used bias tape to finish my arm and neck openings).. but, this sort of top is pretty much the shorter version of dress, and i guess there is a lot of tutorials that can show you how to line a dress

I thought it would be an easy peasy dress as well. It was huuuge.
But I had to make so many alterations, especially under the armhole I don’t think I will turn my black wearable muslin into a “real” dress. I kept my fancy fabric for the good old 3/2011 Short Dress with Bubble Skirt. it never dissapoints the fit of the bust. I might work on that bust to make it a racer back. But I didn’t like this pattern’s fit at all.

:) too much effort.. i worked seven hours on the damn top, that i would normally make in less then two hours.. yup, it’s mannequin’s leg, and on a left side of the pic is mannequin’s torso.. that’s my new favorite shooting location, and it’s full of broken mannequins :) cool and creepy, right hehe
