If you like this dress, get thee to Gretchen Hirsch’s Sew Retro Perfect Fit Bombshell Dress online course at Craftsy.com. It was the best $29 I ever spent on sewing (which includes the cost of the Burdastyle pattern). I made my dress from a printed silk I bought for $14/yard at Metro Textile in NYC. But the silk was too fine (and NOT recommended for this pattern!!) so I ironed on a fusible to the back. (Kashi at Metro Textile gave me the idea. Thanks, Kashi!) It worked out perfectly, and I love the fit. I wasn’t a fan of the original skirt, so I drafted my own (which is not quite a circle skirt, but close…I made an A-line pattern and then added flare until I had enough swing in it to balance out my hips). I wore this dress to a wedding the other night and got a zillion compliments. I want to make 40 more, in all colours and prints. I recommend the course to anyone. If you follow all the videos and take your time, you WILL have a beautiful dress. AND you won’t have to wear a bra. For real!
