Sleeveless tank-style dress based on a design from Pattern Magic by Tomoko Nakamichi, my favorite sewing book.
I altered a basic bodice pattern following the clear diagrams in the book (text is in Japanese, which I can’t read).
Fabric is hand-dyed linen, silk organza underlining in the bodice, fully-lined in Ambiance rayon.

This is so elegant. Just beautiful and the colours are superb!
I have recently discovered the wonderful world of Japanese Sewing Books – and I must say – I am incredibly excited by your news that soon the Pattern Magic books will be available in English.
You look beautiful. That dress is a thing of beauty and art.

Love it! Love it! Love it! Would love to make it but I don’t think it would look as good with big bozzooms. And lets be honest, my waist is gone too but it’s so beautiful. Lovely fabric too.

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!
You can’t really tell here, but I have a full bust too and I think the bow still works.
Here is another version as a top, and doesn’t she look lovely.

Thank you so much!
Good thinking to wait for the English versions; I have both volumes in Japanese but will probably re-buy the ones I can actually read.

Caught my eye! Will try to meddle with basic bodice and see if can replicate anywhere near this. Any tips for doing so. Please…

The front bodice and collar pattern pieces look like this. Darts are rotated to the center of the bodice, then it is spread and extended to form one of the bow loops. The collar is folded over (pattern piece should be cut on the fold on the long straight edge) and stitched to the neck. Here is a great post showing the pattern manipulation process. Good luck!

Thank you so much Ona.
I was intimidated by this book too and have been contemplating making something from it for YEARS. Really, it wasn’t too difficult. Just do it! I will gladly help if you need it, here or my email address is my username @gmail.com.

Gorgeous! I was flipping through the book last week and saw this design. Your dress is absolutely stunning and I LOVE the colour of your fabric!

That is absolutely beautiful! I love everything about it. The color is wonderful. I’m learning more about dyeing and painting fabric at the moment. What sort of dyes do you use?

Thank you so much!
I used iDye brand dye in chartreuse and fiber reactive dye (for plant-based fibers) in avocado from DharmaTrading.com. They also carry excellent dye for silk called jacquard acid dye. The instructions on their website are excellent with lots of tips and techniques. I usually order several dyes so I can tweak it to get the shade just right.
