Copying Pat’s existing sleeping bag, I made a pattern using greaseproof baking paper and cut out the pieces. I probably did too much work – I sewed the lining to the outer, then sewed the front and back together, then added the bias binding and then the zip. I’m sure a more experienced seamstress would have skipped some of the stages but I am really really happy with how it turned out and can’t wait to put him in it tomorrow evening!
Low point: using the greaseproof paper; it wasn’t big enough so I had to tape bits together and it wasn’t terribly accurate. Next time I won’t be a cheapskate and I’ll buy proper pattern paper.
High point: finishing the zip and opening and closing it several times with a huge smile on my face because it actually worked!!
The outer is made from an odd curtain I bought for £4. The yoke was the bottom of the curtain. It is lined with a brushed cotton sheet we weren't using any more. Blue bias binding, a 54cm zip and some poppers (snaps). It cost about £6 altogether with enough materials to make another!

awww, too cute!! It’s perfect for winter… and he seems to love it already, :) I think I’m like you because I like to figure things out myself.
About the greaseproof paper, try purchasing some recycled brown paper from WH Smith, it costs about £2.80 or so for a roll of 50m. It’s wide so you might not need to tape it together and cheap too, so you’ll use it for a looooooong time.

Well, I think you did a fab job! It doesn’t matter if someone else would do it differently – you did it in a way that worked for you and the wonderful result is there for us all to see Darl! Beautiful! Zips can be a “dilly-of-a-pickle” at the best of times! Looks lovely! (And love the fact the materials are recycled – can’t beat that!)

Great job—maybe I’ll make one too. I know what it’s like not having proper paper—I usually use newspaper!
