A jacket for spring-finally!
It is the first jacked I’ve made and the most accurately sewn project at the same time.
All seams meet where they are supposed to meet and nothing is bulky! : )
It is probably not the most complicated jacket pattern I could have picked, but I’m proud, so I hope you like it!
The parka is lined with some bird fabric and has a drawstring in the waist as well as in the hem. There are two pockets (are these also called welt pocket?-see second to last photo) at the sides and it has a hood. I also added a pocket with a zipper on the inside (last photo).
The jacked can be closed with a zipper and, in addition, it has some snaps on the placket.
I did some topstitching on the sleeves and the hood and coloured one of the birds (second to last photo).
The sleeves can be rolled up one or two times (or not at all).
And now my label is sewn on : ) I hadn’t done that before taking the pictures.
The pattern is no 126 from burda 1/2009. I only did some minor changes – I added the pocket and I didn’t sew on the extra layer of fabric in the back, I didn’t have enough fabric and wasn’t sure about including it anyway.
blue thin but strong fabric, ikea bird fabric, drawstring, the stopper things for the drawstring, snaps, zipper

Super cute and I love the birds! The details also look very neat and minute, so well done on precisely sewing! You certainly did an amazing job!

Thanks a lot!
I like yours, too – and you used gortex!!
I think I’ll check if they have it in my local fabric shops…

Just like the parka! Especially simple coloured fabrics with a patterned lining are so pretty.

Thanks : )
Hehe, yes.. Did you use it for the “talea raincoat”?
I just realised that you have made a LOT of coats, you are the coat queen!
No, the hood wasn’t difficult to sew. I hadn’t done one before and it was no problem. When I sewed in the linig I had to close one of the last holes at the hood, but since the seam isn’t extremely curvy in the front it worked well. You should definitely try it!
Maybe I would make the hood a little longer in the front next time. That would be useful when I’m riding my bike and it’s drizzling, but it doesn’t count as a problem.

Yes I did!! I had orange birds though! Yeah its becoming a bit of an obsession… I figured its supposed to be summer so no more coats, but the weather here is still really rubbish and cold :-(
What pattern did you use for your parka? I’m definetely going to have to get in on the hood action!

Here it’s not really warm either. I hope spring will come back soon. Maybe I should make a warm coat as well, I’m going to spend some time in Scotland..
The pattern is no 126 from burda 1/2009.

Oh yes – you’ll need a coat in Scotland!! Believe me UK = not warm at the moment. Have a great time in Scotland :-)

One again you’ve made something so very cute and created a great outfit to boot!

Ooo. Pretty. I’ve been planning forever to use this model to make an oversized parka in an autumn camouflage pattern for a rather petite friend of mine, but unfortunately I’ve been unable to find the right fabric so far. Mine will probably look rather messier than this one, though….

This is so great and functional looking! Is it waterproof??

It’s not completely waterproof, but the fabric was meant for jackets so the water isn’t soaked up immediately. Yesterday it was raining a bit and I stayed dry.

Awesome! You win!

Aha, that’s what it looks like. I think I have the same issue, and I have wondered about it since it’s pitch black in the magazine and the details don’t show. It’s really nice, well done! I’d like one too :-)

Thank you! I had been wondering about it, too. I also wanted to look at the pictures to see if what I thought the instructions were telling me was right, but that wasn’t really possible. Fortunately everything worked anyway : )
