Description

I decided to make my own corset as I wanted to make one that fitted properly and didn’t cost £100-200, I think the materials came to approx £45 so it was definitely worth the risk. I made my own pattern and just kept my fingers crossed! the waist has a 4" cinch although it doesn’t actually feel that cinched, maybe I need to be a bit more strict on the lacing!! I have made a little website showing how I made this pattern and corset, for beginners by a beginner its… http://www.kimberleypope.com/how_to_make_a_corset/

Material Notes

Outer fabric- Jacquard, interlining - cotton, interfacing, lining- cotton twill, busks, eyelets, 6 meters of steel boning and ribbon for edging and lacing.

Hey guys, you can also go to this site http://www.elizabethancostume.net/custompat/index.html. You just fill in your measurements and it gives you a full step by step guide on making a corset to your own measurements – Brilliant.

Hi Everyone, many thanks for comments… This was my first attempt at a corset, I did quite a lot of research over the internet and had a book of reference corsets to try to figure out how they put them together, with regards to the pattern I haven’t any training in pattern making I just gave it a go and it worked thankfully! I am going to try and put a little web page up of all the stages I went through as I took lots of pictures as I made it, so as soon as I get that done I’ll come back and add a link. if you fancy trying your own pattern just take your widest horizontal measurement (- hip) and draw a box that is as wide as your centre front to centre back / and high as centre breast to pelvis, then measure down to your waist line (draw horizontal line in your box at right height for your waist), next find your waist length (c/front – c/back) subtract an extra 2inches (this will become a 4inch cinch as this is one half of the corset pattern) once you have worked out the subtraction from your hip measurement divide this by 4, 5 or 6 depending on how many panels you want in your corset and draw 4, 5 or 6 vertical lines with each having it’s own subtraction (you can see this in my pattern pics) if you then repeat the same subtraction for the line at your underbust, voila you have the basics of a pattern, I will go into a much clearer explanation for the webpage and dealing with the boob area soon!

Corsets are always a challenge, so I’m always impressed when I see a good one. This is absolutely beautiful.
